Great gun with the right ammo. October 9, 2015
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from North Carolina
I was torn between the Ruger Mini-30 and an AK variant, and went with the Ruger based on my experiences with the 10/22.  I purchased a case of Wolf steel cased ammo separately; when I picked this up at the shop I dropped $25 for 20 shells, cleaned the gun thoroughly, and they all cycled through perfectly. I've since shot about 60 rounds of the cheap stuff. I'd read on some reviews that the some of the older Rugers wouldn't always pop the tougher primers, but I've had no problems with that at all. I have had several failure to feed issues with the steel cased ammo, however - about one every 6-7 rounds on average. Still a great deer or hog rifle (with the right ammo) and fun for overall target practice with the cheap stuff, but doesn't cycle steel cases like (I've heard) the AK's do. Looks like I'll have to pick up an AK someday after all.
